Bronze and marble were favoured by the ancient Greek and Roman sculptors and Igor Mitoraj in homepage to this classical tradition has created Centurione I.
The 10 feet-high bronze consists of a make-like face with classical features. It is incomplete, as if it is the surviving piece of the whole. Ancient Greek statuary comes to us broken, its incompleteness has become part of its modern appeal. Mitoraj was born in Germany, studied classical painting in Cracow, then moved to Paris to continue his studies in painting. It was after a visit in South America he started to experiment with sculpture.
