The well established and massive Gallery is located near Hackney Central, just off Mare Street. It is based in the basement of PRA Day Centre, a rehabilitation project for people experiencing and or recovering from mental health problems. PRA is a charitable organization founded in 1959 which aims to stimulate participants towards greater initiative, social awareness and prepares and encourages them to play an active part in their community.

The Gallery helps to highlight the profile of PRA and the work done by the charity to integrate its members with the wider community.

Social inclusion, is ideally a great initiative but in practice it is a difficult task because of the stigma still attached to mental health problems and to people experiencing and/or recovering from mental illness.

PRA has decided, in conjunction with its members, to offer the space available at our EtCetera Gallery and Studios to local artists, students and other groups involved with art.

PRA has found that the artistic compilation from all the participating artists integrates extremely well with the work of the Gallery and it is spectacular to see different styles maximise one another. This is also a great opportunity for PRA members to interact with artists and visitors and feel encouraged and inspired to continue their own artistic development as a mean of expression.

The new opening hours as from January 2008 are Monday to Friday 9.00am to 4.00pm
