In June 2005, BISCHOFF/WEISS opened a 1200 sq foot space in the East End of London just behind Hoxton Square. Hosting seven shows per year, the gallery encourages artists to use the space as a laboratory for experimentation, pushing the boundaries of aesthetics visually and conceptually.
Working primarily with emerging international artists the gallery provides a platform for all contemporary art mediums including site specific works involving sculpture, artist moving image film and video, large scale installation and photography. The gallery programme encourages a strong dialogue both between the UK and the rest of Europe reflecting the backgrounds and experiences of the gallery’s founders while promoting a diverse and exciting international vision between young talent and more established artists.
Working with artists such as Nathaniel Rackowe, Maya Hewitt, Ali Silverstein and Michael Ajerman since 2005, the gallery program has expanded greatly and will be featuring the widely exhibited Tatiana Trouvé in October 2006 for her fist solo show in London. Also, the gallery invites once a year a curator to host a particular exhibition. In 2007, Jean-Conrad Lemaitre chose to create a dialogue between two videos of Laurent Montaron and Guillame Leblon. In 2008, the gallery hosted the second part of an exhibition that had taken place in Thailand in 2006. The show featured four artists from the UK and three from Thailand including Nipan Oranniwesna who represented his country at the 2007 Venice Biennale.
