Transition was founded in October 2002 in a former garage near Victoria Park, Hackney. Since April 2006 the gallery has been located at Unit 25a Regent Studios, 8 Andrews Road, London E8 4QN

The gallery is run by artist Cathy Lomax and shows work by both emerging and established contemporary artists. It also runs Transition Editions, the artist led publishing imprint of Transition Gallery.
