FINDING PICTURES IN SEARCH OF SOUNDS

Museum 52 is delighted to present its second solo show with sound artist Stephen Vitiello.

Finding Pictures in Search of Sounds, 2008, will feature two separate sound works. Each will be connected to a single colour, forming a visual soundtrack to the recordings. The first, a frenetic mix of field recordings and electronics will surround the listener, whilst a silver glow illuminates the space. The second work, involving four speakers embedded in the walls, resonates a comparable calm; immersing the space in a dark shade of blue, pulsating, with sounds that lightly scratch and itch. More of an internal dialogue than the first work, the division and symbiosis of the two pieces is integral. The division forces a consideration of the transitory in-between; the space of interpretation bridging the visual, the sonic and, in turn, the language used to interpret these phenomena.
