Madder Rose is proud to present new paintings and drawings by emerging artist, Nessie Stonebridge.

Stonebridge uses the dramatic comparative scale of her paintings and drawings to explore both her psychological and physical state. She works simultaneously on the contrasting sizes which both feed and breed the work, switching between methods and scale.

Powerful, intensive, intimate work is created from the smaller pieces whilst the larger pieces allow her to physically and emotionally engage. Stonebridge plays with the spectator`s perception. By juxtaposing small paintings next to large, the viewer is lured into the intimate captive space only then to be forced backwards, resulting in a rollercoaster ride of space, perception and emotional drama.

Often appearing as dark and explicit, her marks draw upon past and present emotions, always heavily charged. The canvas becomes an organic playground where sexual tension and emotion are played out in an orgy of amorphic forms, presenting the viewer with familiar yet ambiguous notions. Stonebridge`s paintings exude a raw appeal whilst nurturing a transcendental beauty.
