Matthias Hoch tends to select objective details and reduced compositions for his architectural photographs, an approach that imbues his images with a monumental austerity. His compositions derive their rhythm from sequences of elements and color fields, while minor deviations and asymmetries mediate the formal stringency of the grid pattern. Building façades, parking decks, functional structures— his photographs are images of contemporary urbanity. In lucid compositions, his photos expose the materials of the modern age in all of their austere sensuality. They document Hoch’s critical, analytical approach to the space around us, yet they also exhibit a remarkable sculptural quality.'
