In conjunction with London Photomonth 2007, Contemporary Art Projects is staging two exhibitions by contemporary artists working in the photographic medium using contrasting methods.

Many contemporary artists working in the photographic medium create staged images, using objects or models to portray characters in a narrative scene. This exhibition showcases five contemporary artists working in the photographic medium that seek to exercise “complete control” over their images either by playing the acting role or by artificially creating the scene itself.

Kate Belton, MA Fine Art Painting RCA; from a series of painted scenery and constructed objects made by the artist. Ms. Belton has exhibited widely throughout Europe and the US and her work is in several leading collections.

Gayle Chong Kwan, MSc Communications, Stirling University, BA Fine Art Central Saint Martins; from a series of fantasy landscapes constructed from food stuffs; her work is currently seen on the London Underground in a Platform for Art project entitled Journey to the Centre of the Earth.

Errol Francis, MA Fine Art, Central Saint Martins; from a series of images taken in museums and galleries that explores what art is collected, by whom, and why.

Victoria Hall; MA Fine Art Chelsea College of Art & Design; from a series of restaged British and European paintings from the 16th through to the 20th century, in which the artist always plays the leading lady.

Holly Lynton; MFA, Bard College, NY; from a series of calendar self-portraits entitled Mean Ceiling. This will be Ms. Lynton’s first London exhibition.
