It has been said that without the Thames, there would be almost no viable London aesthetic. - A Breath of London, Colin Halliday’s first solo show at the gallery will focus on views of the river Thames, Battersea Power Station, Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf.

Exploring light, the water and some of London’s most romantic landmarks; Colin also aims to paint the truth of nature such as the pollution that surround us Londoners amongst the landscape of a great city; a subject that Turner has been the first to explore, portraying the atmospheric effects brought on by the industrial pollution of his own time and creating great masterpieces heavily criticized then, but greatly admired now.

Well over 100 years on, Colin’s fearless working methods and technical details together with his selection of materials such as London dirt which he sweeps from the streets and applies over his work with oils and varnish give each image dramatic light, atmospheric and textural effects just as one of the old masters’ but with a contemporary twist.

The work on show, both paintings and photographs are poetic and evocative and are not just about topographical London but an atmospheric account of our city in every sense.

Colin Halliday was born in 1964 and studied Fine Art in Exeter. His work is institutional, corporate and private collections in the UK and the USA where he has also exhibited. In 2000 a Retrospective Exhibition of his work was held in London.
