Fosterart is pleased to announce the opening of Atlantic, a group exhibition of works by British and American artists.
This show has been organised in collaboration with the Howard Scott Gallery in New York. Howard Scott opened his first gallery in the East Village district of New York in 1985. During the past eighteen years, in spaces in SoHo and Chelsea, he has presented artists living and working in the US and has also introduced many prominent international artists whose work had not previously been seen in America.
Howard Scott, H-S Gallery: I’m pleased to introduce these well-respected artists into the British consciousness. It is very exciting to see in a single space the juxtaposition of painters working on both sides of the Atlantic.
I’ve been an avid collector of contemporary art since walking into Howard’s gallery twelve years ago.
Our trans-Atlantic relationship continued without interruption when I moved to London in 1994. Launching Fosterart has provided a natural opportunity to introduce some of Howard’s artists to British audiences and in keeping with the spirit of collaboration, it seemed fitting that their work should be presented not in isolation, but alongside several first-rate painters from this side of the Atlantic.
Although each artist in this group show uses a unique method of working, they all share an interest in the subtlety of surface presentation. This is not art that you can understand in a minute. It takes considerable time to detect and evaluate the undercurrents concealed in these multi-layered works.
The reception is on American Thanksgiving, 27 November. What better way to observe the holiday in my adopted homeland than to stage an exhibition of work by these exciting artists and invite everyone around to enjoy it!
We had a terrific response to our inaugural exhibition last month; I hope everyone will come Thursday to welcome Howard and the artists and participate in the beginning of a new tradition in London.
