Central to Dobson’s practice is the German word “Verfremdung” implying an approach to representation which instead of being a response to the real visual world and its meaning, exists on its own terms. In his paintings, object impressions made on wet layers of acrylic paint are manipulated by subsequently applying several layers of thin paint, with an allusion to pixilation.. He lives and works in London and studied at Reading University. In 1997 he won the Logos Prize; in 2002, 2004 was shortlisted for John Moore’s; and, in 1998 for the Jerwood Painting Prize.
Selected exhibitions include:
2004 Art Bond, London. 2003: Bettie Morton Gallery, London; Brixton Open, London. |

Both actual and imaginary, these journeys explore cultures, history, sexuality, and the social fabric of life, acquiring archival status, as through these she describes past histories and contemporary life whilst invoking hidden histories and memories. She lives and works in London. She studied at the University of Reading and Goldsmiths College.

Richard Meaghan's paintings are invented and are an amalgamation of a number of differing experiences that revolve around memory, making use of allegorical and pictorial inventions and references from contemporary art and art history. Meaghan's narrations are not linear, but rather associative and analytical, so that the works function like short stories, in which the plot is compressed into single images. However, the fragments have to be pieced together and thus can seemingly fall somewhere between dream and reality. The resulting paintings appear as visions of somewhere familiar yet strange, uncanny shimmerings based on careful study of our world that in turn suggests another. |

Inspired by artists like Frida Kahlo, Gibbs’s practice gains an autobiographical nature. Everyday objects are subverted to tell personal stories of the repetitive and mundane, yet poignant nature of everyday life and conventions. She is specifically interested in the cyclical nature of life- ‘life creating life to create life’ and the necessary condition of motherhood to keep the cycle active..
She lives and works in London and studied at Central St Martins. Selected exhibitions include:
2006: Chicago Art Fair, Rosy Wilde gallery, London; People Like Us, Nomoregrey, London. Forthcoming exhibitions include How Women Are at Sartorial Contemporary Art, London in 2007. |
