I am interested in the notion of the world as a stage, where human activity creates a tale of contradictions and mystery.
My paintings are a product of certain kind of negotiation between the meaningful and the absurd, the personal and the objective perception of the world, which appears to be in a struggle with its reality. A world that is at once, invented yet real, amazing yet disturbing, settled but ready to collapse, organized within it’s chaos, absurdity and isolation.
I am fascinated by the role that a space can play in the development of a certain story, which is at a point of its culmination. In many ways I have used the space as a main indicator of the psychological state of the people and the animals that inhabit it, their inability to dominate the shifting, reciprocal relationship with the environments in which they find themselves.
Parallel to the figurative work I am also working on small scale paintings in which I am investigating the idea of home as an abstract and internal landscape. These paintings started off as a quest for freedom from the literal ideas and investigation into the abstract relationship between colour, brush mark and drawing techniques.
More recently they have become another transmitter for my need to see and re-experience the past as present, a distant landscape as something very close and vibrant in its existence.
