The East London Art Walks provide the perfect opportunity to learn more about a variety of things - some of the hidden East London gallery spaces and the Contemporary Art Market in general; the history of the London Art Scene and why East London has become such a hub for artists and gallerists, as well as learning a little more of the history of the area and therefore of London as a whole.
My background is in Art History, and after taking an MA in history of Art I worked for a few years in the art world, both in London and Rome. I then qualified as Blue Badge Guide for London and now specialise in guiding around art galleries and museums. This walk is particularly interesting as it pulls together so many different strands of interest – history, art, geography, contemporary issues – all in an area of London, the East End, that is all too often forgotten, but is extremely vibrant and stimulating.
We will visit about half a dozen spaces over 2 ½ to 3 hours and, while moving between spaces, we will explore the local area and discuss its story, both historically, architecturally and in terms of the London Art Scene.
