Ford Crull
Place of birth Boston, MACountry of residence United States of America
In Ford Crull’s paintings crosses, hearts, wings, and the human figure coupled with geometric shapes appear as a gathering of calligraphic mark making in rich, luminous colours maintaining at the same time a poetic, dreamlike and overtly cryptic expression.
Within a kaleidoscopic environment peopled with arrays of signifiers, words appear in the form of codes to provide a possible route to navigate the mysterious landscape. Bravura of graphic elements, colour and compressed energy, his works also take on a more contemplative spirit strongly evocative of Symbolist sensibility.
He lives and works in Manhattan and studied at the University of Washington, Seattle.
Selected exhibitions include:
2005 Howard Scott Gallery, New York.
2004 Works on Paper, The Armory, New York.
His work is held in collections of The National Gallery of Art, Washington and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
