I work with drawing on paper and painting on canvas to explore visual perception and nature and the boundaries between figuration and abstraction.

Among my influences are the Impressionist paintings of Alfred Sisley; the Pointillist paintings of Georges Seurat and Abstract Expressionist ‘lasso’ paintings of Jackson Pollock.

I paint wolf, owl and albatross- creatures defined by their strong independent spirit, and yet collaborators in their quest for survival.

The majority of my paintings are built up with many vertical layers of acrylic paint flicked onto canvas. In some cases the paint appears in relief and has the quality of fur and mist. The images appear to shift, dissolve and crystallise as one moves relative to the canvas. Changing ambient light alters the relative resonances of the colours. I am currently experimenting with flicking paint in opposing directions, to create different visual textures that catch light in different ways. Using this technique I aim to create paintings, which like formal sculpture, are subtly animated by light and the movement of the viewer.
